Description

This Bacon Cheeseburger Pie is a delicious and hearty dish combining all the classic flavors of a cheeseburger baked in a flaky pie crust. Featuring lean ground beef, savory bacon bits, sharp cheddar cheese, and flavorful seasonings, this comforting pie is perfect for an easy dinner or a crowd-pleasing potluck dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 unbaked pie crust

Filling

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Hormel real bacon bits or 5 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • ⅓ cup Panko bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp barbeque sauce
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese or your favorite cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it firmly against the bottom and sides. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add Flavorings and Bind Ingredients: Transfer the cooked beef mixture to a bowl. Stir in the bacon bits (or crumbled cooked bacon), Panko bread crumbs, ketchup, barbeque sauce, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, one beaten egg, and milk. Mix thoroughly to combine.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Spoon half of the beef mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle half of the grated cheddar cheese on top. Add the remaining beef mixture and then top with the remaining cheese.
  5. Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps the filling set for easier cutting.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, you can blind bake the pie crust for 5-7 minutes before adding the filling.
  • Feel free to substitute the cheddar cheese with your favorite cheese such as Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or pepper jack for a different flavor.
  • To make the recipe lower in fat, use lean ground beef and reduced-fat cheese.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
