Sweet Potatoes & Base:
- 5–6 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (⅛-inch rounds)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- ½ cup water
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg (freshly grated recommended)
- ¼ tsp salt
Topping:
- ¼ cup chopped pecans (or walnuts, toasted)
- ½ cup mini marshmallows (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare Sweet Potatoes: In a saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, water, spices, and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook until sugar is dissolved.
- Layer Sweet Potatoes: In a baking dish, layer the sweet potatoes and pour the butter mixture over them.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle pecans and marshmallows on top and broil until golden brown.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving.
