Ingredients
Scale
Cheese and Bacon
- 8 oz Mozzarella Cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 6 slices Cooked Bacon, crumbled
Chicken Mixture
- 1 lb Ground Chicken (or substitute ground turkey or lean beef)
- 1/2 cup Buffalo Sauce, divided (adjust for spice preference)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
Breading and Frying
- 1 cup Plain Flour
- 2 large Eggs, beaten
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs (Panko or regular for extra crunch)
- 2 cups Vegetable Oil or Canola Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare Mozzarella and Bacon: Cut the mozzarella into small cubes about one inch each and set aside. Crumble the cooked bacon into small pieces, then wrap each mozzarella cube completely with a piece of bacon, ensuring it is well covered.
- Mix Chicken Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and half of the buffalo sauce. Mix thoroughly until the seasoning is evenly distributed.
- Form Bombs: Take a handful of the chicken mixture and flatten it in your palm. Place a bacon-wrapped mozzarella cube in the center and carefully encase it entirely with the chicken mixture, shaping it into a ball.
- Bread the Bombs: Roll each chicken ball first in plain flour to coat evenly, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumbs for a crunchy exterior.
- Cook Bombs: Heat vegetable or canola oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry the bombs for 5-6 minutes until golden and crispy. Alternatively, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the bombs for 18-20 minutes until crisp and cooked through.
- Serve: Drain the cooked bombs on paper towels to remove excess oil. Drizzle the remaining buffalo sauce over the hot bombs and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Refrigerate assembled chicken bombs before cooking to help maintain their shape and improve crispiness.
- Using panko breadcrumbs will give the bombs an extra crunchy texture compared to regular breadcrumbs.
- You can adjust the amount of buffalo sauce used to control the spice level.
- For a healthier version, baking is a great alternative to frying without sacrificing flavor.
- Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping to complement the buffalo flavor.
