Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 (8 ounce) tube of crescent rolls (8 count)
Filling
- 3 slices American cheese
- 6–8 Hamburger dill pickle chips
- 24 cocktail sausages (12 ounce packet)
Topping
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Crescent Roll Dough: Open the tube of crescent rolls and separate the dough into 8 triangles as indicated. Gently press the perforations to seal and form solid triangles.
- Slice Cheese and Pickles: Cut the 3 slices of American cheese into strips that will fit inside the dough triangles. Slice 6–8 hamburger dill pickle chips in half horizontally so each piece is thinner to fit inside the roll.
- Assemble Pigs in a Blanket: Place one cocktail sausage on the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Add a strip of cheese and 1-2 pickle slices on top of the sausage.
- Roll the Dough: Carefully roll each triangle starting from the wide end, wrapping the sausage, cheese, and pickles inside until fully enclosed.
- Prepare Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of each wrapped sausage with the egg wash to achieve a golden-brown finish.
- Add Sesame Seeds: Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of sesame seeds evenly over the tops of the wrapped sausages for added flavor and texture.
- Bake: Place the assembled pigs in a blanket on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving warm as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Use full-fat American cheese slices for the best melt and flavor.
- Choose your favorite brand of cocktail sausages; smaller sizes work best for this recipe.
- Ensure the dough is properly sealed to prevent cheese and pickles from leaking out during baking.
- Egg wash helps achieve a shiny, golden crust; don’t skip it if you want a beautiful presentation.
- You can omit sesame seeds if you have allergies or prefer a simpler look.
- Serve with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauces for extra taste.
