Description

A festive and fun Easter-themed snack mix known as Easter Bunny Bait or Easter Puppy Chow. This sweet and crunchy treat combines Rice Chex cereal, mini pretzels, festive Easter candies, and a smooth white chocolate peanut butter coating, all dusted with powdered sugar for a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Ideal for holiday gatherings or as a delightful treat for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Cereal and Candy Mix

  • 8 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 2 cups mini twist pretzels
  • 1/2 cup Easter M&Ms, divided (1/4 cup + 1/4 cup)
  • 1/2 cup jelly beans, divided (1/4 cup + 1/4 cup)

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 Tablespoons light olive oil

Finishing

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a very large bowl (preferably one with a lid around 20-30 cups capacity), pour in the Rice Chex cereal, mini twist pretzels, and half of the Easter candies (1/4 cup M&Ms and 1/4 cup jelly beans). Set this mixture aside, making sure the bowl is large enough for thorough mixing later.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a medium-sized glass bowl, combine the white chocolate chips, peanut butter, and light olive oil. Microwave this mixture for 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds until the white chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Stir well to combine all ingredients into a uniform coating.
  3. Coat The Cereal Mix: Pour the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the dry cereal and pretzels mix. Gently fold the mixture using a spatula or spoon until all the cereal and pretzels are evenly coated with the chocolate mixture.
  4. Add Powdered Sugar Coating: Add the powdered sugar to the coated cereal mixture in the bowl. Seal the bowl with its lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds, or until all the pieces are evenly dusted with the powdered sugar. This step ensures every bite has a sweet, powdery finish.
  5. Mix In Remaining Candy: Once the coated mix has cooled to room temperature, add the remaining 1/4 cup Easter M&Ms and 1/4 cup jelly beans to the bowl. Gently fold to combine the candies into the snack mix evenly.
  6. Store Properly: Transfer the Easter Bunny Bait to an airtight container. It can be stored at room temperature for up to two weeks, making it perfect for prepping ahead of your Easter celebrations or for snacking anytime.

Notes

  • Ingredient Tips: Feel free to experiment by substituting different kinds of candies to suit your taste or to accommodate dietary restrictions.
  • Prep Tips: If the cereal does not appear fully coated with powdered sugar, add more powdered sugar and shake again. Some peanut butter brands contain more oil, which can cause powdered sugar to absorb and cling less effectively.
