Firecracker Beef Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger Stuffed Onion Bombs are a savory and indulgent dish featuring tender large onions hollowed out and filled with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, crispy beef bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and aromatic seasonings. Baked to perfection, these stuffed onion bombs offer a delicious combination of smoky, cheesy, and juicy flavors, perfect for a comforting dinner or impressive appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Onions

  • 4 large sweet onions

Beef & Bacon Mixture

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (lean mix preferred)
  • 4 slices beef bacon
  • 1 cup (120 g) shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Others

  • 1 tbsp olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the stuffed onions.
  2. Prepare Onions: Peel the outer layers of the large sweet onions carefully. Slice off the tops of each onion and scoop out the insides, leaving about a half-inch shell intact to create a hollow for stuffing.
  3. Cook Beef Bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the beef bacon until crispy. Remove from skillet, let cool slightly, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Brown Ground Beef: Using the same skillet, cook the ground beef until browned, approximately 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally to break it apart.
  5. Combine Filling Ingredients: Stir the chopped bacon into the cooked ground beef along with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend all flavors.
  6. Add Cheese: Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese to the beef mixture while still warm, allowing the cheese to slightly melt and bind the filling.
  7. Stuff Onions: Pack each hollowed onion tightly with the beef and cheese mixture, ensuring they are well filled without breaking the shells.
  8. Prepare for Baking: Place the stuffed onions upright in a baking dish. Drizzle the tops with olive oil to help with browning and moisture retention.
  9. Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to cook onions through and meld flavors.
  10. Bake Uncovered: Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes to achieve a caramelized and slightly crisp top layer.

Notes

  • Slice the tops off the onions carefully without piercing the base to make stuffing easier and prevent filling from spilling out.
  • Sauté the chopped onion insides in the beef fat before mixing with the filling to boost flavor and reduce waste.
