Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Crust
- 1½ cups biscuit or pie dough (store-bought or homemade)
Optional Toppings
- Pickles
- Mustard
- Ketchup
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie plate or an equivalent oven-safe dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Ground Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion together until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat from the pan.
- Mix the Filling Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Assemble the Pie: Roll out the biscuit or pie dough and press it evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared pie plate. Spread the cooked ground beef and onion mixture evenly over the crust. Add the diced tomatoes on top of the beef. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the tomatoes. Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over all the ingredients in the pie crust.
- Bake the Pie: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with optional toppings such as pickles, mustard, or ketchup for an authentic cheeseburger experience.
Notes
- You can use homemade biscuit or pie dough for a fresher taste, or store-bought for convenience.
- If using canned tomatoes, drain excess liquid to avoid a soggy crust.
- Feel free to add other favorite cheeseburger toppings like sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños inside the pie.
- Make sure to drain the fat from the cooked ground beef to keep the pie from becoming greasy.
- This dish can be reheated the next day in the oven or microwave.
