Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Butter
- 4 slices of bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)
- 2 tbsp butter (softened)
Spread and Cheese
- ½ cup marinara or pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Toppings and Seasonings
- 12 slices of turkey pepperoni (or your preferred topping)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. Evenly sprinkle garlic powder and Italian seasoning over the buttered sides to add extra flavor while toasting.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Lay two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a flat surface. Spread marinara sauce on the unbuttered side of each slice. Layer shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, turkey pepperoni slices, and any additional toppings you like on top of the sauce. Cover with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Toast the Sandwich: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches on the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes per side. Use a spatula to press down lightly while cooking and flip carefully to avoid spilling fillings. Continue cooking until the bread is golden brown and the cheese inside is fully melted.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for about a minute. Slice each sandwich in half, garnish with fresh chopped basil if using, and serve immediately. Accompany with extra marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
Notes
- Use any type of bread you prefer, but sturdy bread like sourdough holds up best.
- Adjust the amount of pepperoni or add other pizza toppings such as mushrooms or bell peppers to customize.
- Cooking on medium-low heat helps ensure the cheese melts without burning the bread.
- Butter can be substituted with olive oil for a slightly different flavor.
- To make it vegetarian, omit the turkey pepperoni and add vegetables or plant-based meat alternatives.
