Description

Santa’s Stuffed Mushroom Dip is a warm, creamy appetizer combining savory sausage, earthy mushrooms, and rich cheeses. This hearty dip is perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy nights, featuring a luscious blend of cream cheese, sour cream, and mozzarella with a delightful garlic seasoning.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound sausage

Vegetables

  • 2 pints sliced mushrooms

Dairy

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Seasoning

  • 1½ teaspoons garlic salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart into crumbles. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Sauté the Mushrooms: Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet with the cooked sausage. Cook until the mushrooms have softened and any moisture has evaporated, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: Lower the heat and mix in the cream cheese and sour cream. Stir continuously until the cream cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Season the Dip: Stir in the garlic salt evenly throughout the mixture to enhance flavor.
  5. Add Mozzarella Cheese: Mix in 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese until melted and well combined for extra creaminess.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese over the top.
  7. Bake the Dip: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly with golden spots.
  8. Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Perfect with crackers, bread, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

  • Use mild or spicy sausage depending on your flavor preference.
  • Fresh mushrooms provide the best flavor and texture for this dip.
  • For a lighter version, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
