Description

This Monkey Bread recipe is a sweet, sticky pull-apart bread made from buttermilk biscuits coated in cinnamon sugar and baked in rich melted butter. It’s a perfect treat for breakfast, brunch, or a dessert that everyone will love for its deliciously gooey texture and warm cinnamon flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cans southern style buttermilk biscuits (16 biscuits total)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the monkey bread evenly.
  2. Prepare cinnamon sugar: In a large bowl, combine the 1¼ cups sugar with 1 heaping tablespoon cinnamon, mixing thoroughly to create the cinnamon sugar coating.
  3. Cut biscuits: Open the cans of buttermilk biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters to create bite-sized pieces for coating.
  4. Coat biscuit pieces: Toss the biscuit pieces in the cinnamon sugar mixture until each piece is well-coated with the cinnamon sugar.
  5. Melt butter: In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup of butter until fully liquid.
  6. Grease baking dish: Use some of the melted butter to generously grease the sides and bottom of a bundt pan or a similar baking dish.
  7. Assemble monkey bread: Layer the cinnamon sugar coated biscuit pieces evenly in the greased pan, then pour the remaining melted butter evenly over the top of the biscuit pieces.
  8. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until the monkey bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the monkey bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before carefully inverting it onto a serving plate. Serve warm by pulling apart the sticky, sweet bread pieces.

Notes

  • You can add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts between layers for added texture and flavor.
  • For extra sweetness, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk once cooled slightly.
  • Use a bundt pan for best shape, but any round or deep baking dish will work.
  • Make sure not to overbake to keep the bread soft and gooey inside.
  • This monkey bread is best enjoyed the same day but can be stored covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
