Description
This Chocolate Parfait recipe layers crushed Oreos, rich chocolate mousse, and whipped cream to create a decadent, no-bake dessert that sets in the fridge. Perfect for an elegant treat or casual indulgence, it’s simple to assemble and wonderfully chocolatey with a creamy texture and crunchy Oreo contrast.
Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Layer
- 16 Oreos, crushed
Chocolate Ganache
- 6 oz. dark or semi sweet chocolate, chopped
- ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
Whipped Cream
- 2 cups (480 ml) cold heavy cream
- ¼ cup (60 g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate Mousse
- ½ cup (120 ml) cold heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons Dutch process cocoa powder
Instructions
- Crush Oreos: Place 16 Oreo cookies in a ziplock bag and crush them into small crumbs suitable for spooning. Set aside for layering later.
- Make Chocolate Ganache: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and ½ cup heavy cream. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring between intervals until fully melted and smooth, forming a glossy ganache. This process takes about 1 to 2 minutes total.
- Whip Cream: In a mixing bowl with a whisk attachment, combine the remaining 2 cups heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Start mixing on low for 1 minute, then increase speed to medium and whip for an additional 4 to 5 minutes until medium stiff peaks form. Scoop out half of this whipped cream and set aside for layering.
- Make Chocolate Mousse: With the mixer on low speed, add the cooled chocolate ganache and cocoa powder to the remaining half of the whipped cream. Mix gently until the mixture is fully combined and glossy, creating a smooth chocolate mousse.
- Assemble Parfaits: Using 4 glasses (6 oz each) or 6 smaller glasses (4 oz), layer the dessert beginning with 1 tablespoon of crushed Oreos at the bottom. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of the chocolate mousse over the Oreos, then 1 to 2 tablespoons of whipped cream. Repeat layering one or two more times, finishing with a final layer of crushed Oreos on top.
- Chill and Set: Cover the parfait cups loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours, or up to overnight, to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld.
Notes
- Storage: Store the parfaits covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. The dessert tastes best within 1 day of assembly.
- Variations: For variations, try adding layers of brownies, chocolate cake, or a cream cheese layer as detailed in the blog post’s additional sections to customize the parfait.
