Scale
Ingredients
- 1 package (16 oz) frozen pierogi
- 1 pound kielbasa, sliced
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped chives for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare Crockpot: Spray the inside of the crockpot with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking during cooking.
- First Layer: Place half of the frozen pierogi evenly at the bottom of the crockpot to form the base layer.
- Add Kielbasa and Onion: Spread half of the sliced kielbasa and half of the chopped onions over the pierogi layer.
- Mix Sauce: In a bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and melted butter, stirring until smooth and well blended.
- Spread Sauce: Evenly spread half of the sauce mixture over the kielbasa and pierogi layer to add creaminess and flavor.
- Repeat Layers: Add the remaining pierogi, sliced kielbasa, and chopped onion on top. Then spread the remaining sauce mixture evenly over the top.
- Slow Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 4 to 5 hours, or until the pierogi are tender and flavors have melded together.
- Add Cheese: Thirty minutes before the end of cooking, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top to melt and create a cheesy crust.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the casserole warm, garnished with freshly chopped chives for a pop of color and flavor.
Notes
- For added texture, consider sautéing the onions before layering to deepen their flavor.
- You can substitute kielbasa with smoked sausage or bratwurst if preferred.
- If you want a lower-fat version, use light sour cream and reduced-fat cheddar cheese.
- Make sure to spray the crockpot well to avoid sticking and make cleanup easier.
- This recipe can be doubled for a larger crowd by using a larger crockpot or cooking in two batches.
