Description

Heaven on Earth Cake is a luscious, no-bake layered dessert featuring soft angel food cake, sweet cherry pie filling, creamy instant vanilla pudding, sour cream, and fluffy Cool Whip. This easy-to-assemble treat is chilled to perfection, making it a delightful and refreshing cake ideal for gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Layer

  • 1 angel food cake (pre-made or from a boxed mix)

Fruit Layer

  • 1 can cherry pie filling (540 milliliters / 18 ounces)

Pudding Layer

  • 1 package instant vanilla pudding mix (4 servings, 102 grams / 3.6 ounces)
  • 1½ cups 2% milk
  • 1 cup sour cream

Topping

  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • Sliced or slivered almonds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Cut the cooled angel food cake into 1-inch cubes to ensure easy layering and even texture throughout the dessert.
  2. First Cake Layer: Place half of the cake cubes evenly in the bottom of a 9×9-inch cake pan, spreading them out to form a solid base.
  3. First Cherry Layer: Spread ⅔ of the cherry pie filling evenly over the cake cubes, adding a sweet and fruity layer.
  4. Second Cake Layer: Layer the remaining cake cubes on top of the cherry pie filling, creating a sandwich effect with the cake and fruit.
  5. Make Pudding Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix, 1½ cups of 2% milk, and 1 cup of sour cream. Stir vigorously for about 2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and thickened.
  6. Spread Pudding Layer: Evenly spread the pudding mixture over the top of the second cake layer to add creamy richness.
  7. Cool Whip Layer: Spread 8 ounces of Cool Whip evenly over the pudding to create a light and fluffy topping.
  8. Top Cherry Filling: Drop spoonfuls of the remaining ⅓ cherry pie filling over the Cool Whip layer, then gently swirl it in to infuse the flavors.
  9. Chill: Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 4 to 5 hours to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld. Overnight chilling is recommended for the best taste and texture.
  10. Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle sliced or slivered almonds on top as an optional crunchy garnish to complement the creamy and fruity flavors.

Notes

  • For a homemade twist, bake your own angel food cake instead of using a store-bought one.
  • Ensure the angel food cake is completely cooled before cubing to prevent it from crumbling.
  • You can substitute cherry pie filling with other fruit pie fillings like blueberry or mixed berries for variation.
  • Sour cream adds tang and creaminess, but you may substitute with Greek yogurt for a healthier option.
  • Chilling overnight enhances the flavor melding and texture of the dessert.
  • This dessert is best served cold; leftovers should be refrigerated and consumed within 2 days.
