Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 1 heaping cup M&M candies
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cookie bars.
- Prepare Baking Pan: Line a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of cookie bars later.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, beat the room temperature butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until creamy and well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- Combine Dry and Wet Mixtures: Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring or mixing until just combined. Fold in the M&M candies and mini chocolate chips evenly throughout the dough.
- Shape and Bake: Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out to create a uniform layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 22 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Cut: Remove the baked cookie bars from the oven and cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, lift out the bars using the parchment paper edges and cut into squares for serving.
Notes
- The cookie dough can be prepared 2-3 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator to save time on baking day.
- After baking and cooling, cookie bars can be cut and stored in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Cookie dough can also be frozen for up to 3 months for future baking.
- For variation, chopped walnuts or pecans can be added for extra crunch.
- Feel free to substitute the mini chocolate chips with other favorite chocolate chips such as peanut butter or white chocolate.
