Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 ready to roll puff pastry sheet
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Filling
- 1–2 cups heavy or double cream
- 3–5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- Icing sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C/Gas 6) and line a baking tray with baking paper to prepare for baking the puff pastry.
- Prepare Pastry: Remove the puff pastry sheet from the refrigerator and let it rest for a few minutes to prevent breaking when unrolling. Unroll the sheet gently.
- Cut and Fold Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into equal-sized squares. Fold each square diagonally to form triangle shapes and arrange them spaced apart on the prepared baking tray.
- Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of water until combined. Brush this egg wash evenly over the surface of each pastry triangle to enhance browning and shine.
- Bake Pastries: Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
- Prepare Whipped Cream: While baking, whip the heavy cream with sugar until stiff peaks form. Transfer the whipped cream into a piping bag fitted with a nozzle and set aside.
- Slice Strawberries: Remove stems from the strawberries and slice them into thin pieces for topping the pastries.
- Assemble Pastries: Once baked, let the pastries cool slightly. Carefully slice each pastry open horizontally, pipe a generous amount of whipped cream inside, and top with sliced strawberries. Gently close each pastry.
- Finish and Serve: Dust the assembled pastries lightly with icing sugar. Serve immediately as a delicious and elegant dessert.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is cold but pliable for easy cutting and folding.
- Adjust the sugar in whipped cream to taste depending on sweetness preference.
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
- Serve pastries soon after assembly to maintain pastry crispness and cream freshness.
- Can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours after assembling before serving.
